Visma is arranging several security awareness events across its international organisation as part of the European Cyber Security Month (ECSM) this October.
ECSM is the EU’s annual awareness campaign that takes place each October across Europe. The aim is to raise awareness of cybersecurity threats, promote cybersecurity among citizens and organizations; and provide resources to protect themselves online, through education and sharing of good practices.
“Information security is a shared responsibility, and it requires everyone’s effort to build and maintain good security throughout an organisation. Cybersecurity is identified as one of the core risk management areas for Visma. Because of this, ECSM was seen as a great campaign to aid in the awareness training of our employees,” said Chief Information Security Officer Hans Petter Holen.
Visma has several activities planned, including events in local offices and a social media campaign to raise awareness among the public. Visma employees will also take part in an education program aimed at raising awareness about cyber criminality in businesses.
“We want to use the European Cyber Security Month to raise awareness among our own employees and the public. It requires relatively little training and awareness to significantly reduce the risk of the most common forms of cybercrime, such as phishing and password theft,” said Visma’s Security Communications Manager Isabel Quiroga Arkvik.
Cyber threats are more common than people think. According to a recent survey on hybrid threats among Norwegian businesses conducted by NSR and sponsored by Visma, 60 percent of the respondents stated that they believe cyber threats against companies are commonplace. Close to 40 percent said they had experienced unusual activity towards their own business.
"Transparency is key to a safer digital environment. If more people discuss problems openly, people will realise that cyber criminality is more common than they think. By learning from each other, we can create good solutions together in a more constructive way," said Arkvik.
Visma continues its focus on security in November, when it set to host Visma Security Conference, featuring expert guest speakers from Google, Microsoft and Amazon.
