Primoz Roglic has won the Vuelta a España. The achievement marks the first overall victory in the existence of Team Jumbo-Visma’s pro cycling team.
La Vuelta a España set off August 24 on Costa Blanca, and finished in Madrid this weekend. A strong team backing a superior Roglic throughout the 21 stages of the race, led Team-Jumbo Visma to victory in the Spanish capital.
“I am proud of the team and the way we have fought in the past three weeks. Everyone has given 110 percent, and that also gave me extra motivation to fully go for it. I am relieved that we have been able to bring this to a close successfully. Now we are going to enjoy it, and then we will focus on our next goals," said Roglic after finishing the race.
Managing Director of Team Jumbo-Visma, Richard Plugge, mentions the win as the best result his team has ever achieved. “A victory in a grand tour is the highest achievement. This is the best victory in the team's existence so far. The team was very strong, and Primoz got the best out of everyone. That is why we always emphasise on winning together,” he said.
Team Jumbo-Visma has finished on the podium in every Grand Tour this year. Earlier this summer, Roglic finished third the Giro d’Italia and Steven Kruijswijk came third in the Tour de France.
Visma and CEO Øystein Moan have watched the team closely, and is very impressed with the latest win.
“Following the team throughout the season and seeing them make such big achievements is extremely inspiring. The exposure and attention around victories like this have a significant impact on awareness among employees, potential employees and customers, said Moan.
