We are five students with various academic backgrounds in business and engineering who are interning at Visma’s Stockholm office this summer. We have been at Visma for two weeks and have already visited the HQ in Oslo, spent two nights in the Norwegian wilderness and kick-started our individual projects. In other words, it has been an intense yet thrilling experience so far!
A typical day for a Visma summer intern varies depending on project and business unit. There are no fixed working hours at Visma, the day starts whenever you feel like it, as long as you are able to meet expectations and deliver on time. The five of us are working on different projects, ranging from highly technical algorithm development to solving managerial issues to improve efficiency. Axel J and Kejsi have started their projects by attending numerous meetings with different stakeholders to gather multiple perspectives. Meanwhile, Rebecca and Henrik are exploring large datasets and testing machine learning algorithms. Axel P, on the other hand, has had to create his own agenda with the aim to explore and understand the most crucial systems for his project. It is not unusual that we meet up for a “fika” with our buddies, a few Visma employees and trainees who assist us with their own experience at Visma.
Despite working on separate projects, we still spend a lot of time with each other. We often eat lunch together which lets us catch up with each other’s projects and just hang out. One of our favorite lunch spots at the office is the rooftop area on the 8th floor. It comes with a great view of Stockholm and a group of nesting birds that attack unsuspecting Visma employees who get too close to their nests.
Prior to starting our projects in Stockholm, we spent one week together with the Norwegian summer interns at the headquarters in Oslo. During the week, we got the opportunity to meet interesting people from the organization, experience the Norwegian nature by going on a “hyttetur” and getting to know the Norwegian summer interns. The fun social activities carried over into our weeks at the Stockholm office. We had a great after-work event along with some management trainees at the Stockholm amusement park Gröna Lund.
After our first three weeks at Visma we will be taking two weeks off before returning for the second half of the internship. Stay tuned for more updates!
